Established in 1938 when the Kent family wanted to make an area for a single-family community of homes in a wooded area, Kent Woodlands, or “The Woodlands” as locals call it, is a unique and upscale neighborhood that is one of the most desirable places to call home in Marin County. The only way in is through Woodland Road, and the homes here represent a variety of architectural styles from one-level 50s Ranchers, to Contemporary estates, to Tudor and Spanish/Mediterranean villas, and it’s unlikely that you will find a home priced under a million dollars, even for a cosmetic fixer. All but a few of the 550 homes belong to the Kent Woodlands Property Owners Association, so building or remodeling must go through a review process to ensure the project preserves the character of the community. The roads have no sidewalks, street parking or bike lanes. What makes up for this are the long driveways and large lots, with many properties having incredible privacy. In fact many of the homes are gated and hidden from the street, some with breathtaking views of Mt Tamalpais or the bay, and you get some of the most beautiful settings in Central Marin. And of course the Kentfield schools are among the most sought after in the county.
